Canadian citizenship
To apply for citizenship, you must meet certain eligibility criteria:
Being older than 18 ;
provide proof that you can communicate (speak and write) in one of Canada's two official languages (French or English);
already be a permanent resident;
have lived in Canada as a permanent resident for at least 3 years (1,095 days) during the last 5 years preceding your application;
have filed a tax return for tax purposes for at least 3 years in the last 5 years and have paid the tax amounts due if applicable;
have submitted your citizenship application from Canada.
Minor applicants do not need to meet the residency requirement.
You cannot become a Canadian citizen if you are or have recently been imprisoned, on parole, on probation, indicted for, or convicted of a criminal offense. You also cannot apply if you are subject to a deportation order.
